Tom began actively speaking and writing on both business and technology issues since before the internet was widely used by small business. With a formal education in technology, and a lifetime quest of learning, various technology based writing and workshops projects over the years came naturally.
With his training in the Army National Guard as a Radio and Telephone Tactical Communications Specialist, Tom landed a job with a small town radio station.
While his education and training was on the technical side of telecommunications, the opportunity to do radio news and public service shows, as well as studio production work was significant. The mix of writing and technology lead Tom to other areas which later turned into a life long part time career in writing and public speaking.
Exploring PC telecommunications and its role in business lead to Tom's first article for a regional business journal on how the average business could use computerized Bulletin Board Systems (BBS) as a tool for customer service. Working in the technology field while living in North Eastern Pennsylvania, Tom began free lance writing for numerous business publications. Tom published articles in the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal, and the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal, and participated in various trade shows and workshops in Northeast Pennsylvania.
A cool thing Tom did many years ago, as a volunteer for a social services agency, was to take a workshop originally covering sales skills, created for small business owners, and turn it into a communications skills workshop. Aimed at people recovering from various personal issues, trying to get back on their feet, Tom used sales techniques to teach his students how to sell themselves to a prospective employer, and develop rapport with business people.
Tom has contributed to various online information outlets in recent years. He is currently a regular contributor to Examiner.com, writing columns as Wilmington Technology Examiner, National Internet Examiner, and Wilmington Prepper Examiner. Tom maintains several personally owned websites, including the Guru 42 blog covering technology topics, and The Tao of Questy blog discussing a variety of social topics.
